On my master machine: Within the folder that Insync is configured to watch, I created soft links to the files I want synced to my secondary machine. Everything syncs as desired. This strategy allows me to keep the directory structure I want on that master machine and only sync certain folders to my secondary machine.
Is there a recommended way to keep the dates/times associated with the original folders? On the secondary machine, all the folders are stamped with the date that I created the soft link as opposed to the date associated with the original folder on the master machine.
@egpatton We’ve looked into this issue and have decided that it won’t be fixed.
The issue is that when downloading folders, Insync does not preserve the modified time that’s set on Drive. In fact, if you check on Drive web, the folders will have the proper modified time from the original folders, and NOT the alias.
But what happens on the second machine? The modified time of the folder is actually updated on the filesystem whenever a file in it is created or changed. This means that it will probably happen quite often, and is impractical for Insync to prevent, and Insync can’t enforce that a folder will always have the modified time set on Drive.
I hope this makes sense! Please do let us know if you have further questions or issues.
