Unlike other syncing software (like dropbox, Copy, etc…) Insync can break your system completely if you install the wrong DEB package, like I did. That is a problem. I run Linux Mint Mate edition 17.2 and clicked on the wrong package. I thought I had the right one as it installed!! But on reboot I realized it wiped my desktop environment and attempted to install a Ubuntu Unity desktop which of course crashed. So I had to reinstall the OS completely. Fortunately I had all my files backed up. This time I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon edition 17.2. So the site Insync has zero explaination or description of the different packages. Can anyone tell me if there is a specific package that will work for Cinnamon 17.2? Really, I would think the company behind Insync should consider a streamlines approach to this and produce a universal DEB package that will work across all Ubuntu based distributions.
Hi @Andrew_Webster I apologize for this, will be tagging our engineers here and they will get back to you
@Andrew_Webster What package did you install that caused your issue?
I believed I had made the right choice when I picked 64-bit deb (14.04) Ubuntu in the installer section to use for Linux Mint 17.2 Mate edition. But the point is the software will crash a system IF the wrong package is picked AND allowed to install. Surely you could code a package that would work across all Ubuntu based distributions, much like others do? It’s a matter of checking first to determine IF the customer has accessed the right package. Note that dropbox has no suck issue, I have installed the same package on many Ubuntu based distributions. Currently I am using Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.2 64 bit. Point me to the EXACT link/package that will work for this. (Simply eliminate the guesswork for the customer, that’s your job, not mine!)
Thanks
@Andrew_Webster: I was unable to replicate the issue you described. For Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.2 64 bit the correct package should be the same as the others, http://s.insynchq.com/builds/insync_1.3.3.36056-trusty_amd64.deb. Let us know if you encounter issues with it.
