OneDrive sync failing - Deletes local files

Just about an hour or so back I witnessed an issue I’ve never seen before in my years of using Insync: Insync began deleting all my local OneDrive files.

Logging into the web site, I see that the files are still in OneDrive. However, if I click the OneDrive account in the Insync GUI, it says “This location is empty”.

This is only affecting my personal OneDrive account. I also have a school OneDrive account set up, and it’s syncing correctly.

Anyone else running into this? Has MS changed something that breaks the Insync client?

I’ve experienced this issue too, on Fedora KDE Spin 41.

I also had this problem today. Insync deleted all the local files and doesn’t sync. Fortunately all the files are still in the cloud. I’m also in Fedora 41.
How can I get Insync to work back again?

Thank you two for confirming it’s not just my system/account.

I’ve sent support a message asking them to investigate. My guess is that Microsoft changed something that’s causing the directory retrieval to fail in a way that the client doesn’t realize is an error - It will likely require a client update to fix.

Hello @3vi1 @albuquezi @Lynnesbian.

This is indeed a serious OneDrive issue that seems to be plaguing some of our Linux users specifically. Our engineers continue to investigate this so it does not affect any of our users again moving forward.

Please refer to this to send your case to us for investigation. When emailing support@insynchq.com, please include the link to this Forums post so I can trace the reports accordingly.

Not sure if related, but ever since this issue occured for me (OneDrive sync failure where local files are being removed from the sync folder [with workaround]), InSync keeps deleting and even unsyncing local one drive files.

Hi @user123456. My apologies for the huge issue. Could you please send the following to support@insynchq.com:

  • logs.db
  • out.txt
  • file/s that Insync keeps deleting and unsyncing

You can find the logs by following this guide: https://help.insynchq.com/en/articles/1834816-locating-the-log-files

To add, is Insync deleting files from the cloud or is this only happening locally?

On Dec 6 - on Windows 11, insync just started deleting all of my synced OneDrive files and folders. I could restore them from my Windows Recycle Bin, but then insync would proceed to delete them again. Fortunately OneDrive the cloud itself didn’t sync any file removals.

Same issue here. Local folder on GUI empty, on local disk and Cloude files are there…

Same issue just occurred here. The text logs seemed to be a ton of CORS errors, didn’t see much else in there when I did a quick glance. Removing and and then reconnecting my account seems to have restored functionality, at least short term.

Hello, everyone!

I just noticed the issue on my Mint 23.1 PC. I’m uninstalling Insync.

The same thing happened to me on Linux Mint 21.3. According to the posts here, this critical issue started at least 3 weeks ago and it was still not addressed by Insync developers?! Uninstalling Insync and trying out some free alternatives.

OneDrive sync is failing for me as well

Hello everyone. Rest assured that this is one of our engineer’s priorities right now so we can address this serious issue and provide a fix as soon as possible. On behalf of the Insync devs, I sincerely apologize for the wait.

If you have not, please follow these guidelines to submit your report along with your logs. Thank you!

Start happening here too. Linux Mint 22
