OneDrive sync failure where local files are being removed from the sync folder [with workaround]

I am working with tech support on the problem.

Luckily, files on the cloud are NOT being affected. My temp solution has been to disconnect the onedrive accounts from syncing.

Deleting and then adding the onedrive account does NOT fix the problem. The local file deletions recur.

@user123456 Could you please send your logs.db and out.txt files to support@insynchq.com? Please also provide a few file names that were trashed locally so we can check that in the logs.

Any new developments regarding the Issue? I’m running the Insync client on two Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon machines and can’t sync with Onedrive anymore…

I removed my OneDrive account and re-add it, which made the folders and files visible again and sync seems to be working again now. But it would be nice to have an explanation about why the issue occurred. :wink:

Apologies for the late revert!

This issue is still under investigation. I will be updating the title of this Forums post to make it more visible to users who may be experiencing a similar issue.

For visibility on this post, the current workaround is to indeed remove and re-add your OneDrive account.

I had the same issue occur yesterday with OneDrive local files removed on my Laptop (Ubuntu 22.04, Insync 3.9.4.60020), which was fixed by removing the account and re-adding it with the same base folder. One day later the same issue occurred on my desktop (also Ubuntu 22.04, Insync 3.9.4.00).

I originally thought this was a Microsoft token expiration issue improperly handled by the program so, while it was in the process of deleting other directories I experimented a bit. New directories that I made within the OneDrive synced section instantly deleted locally but appeared in my online OneDrive. So upload worked in some capacity while things were being deleted.

I’ve also just been affected by this issue. Very frustrating to see it go through and wipe out all your local files, especially considering the amount and size of files I now have to sync all over again. Logs already sent but I hope this issue is being looked at by inSync…

Are there instructions for how to just remove and re add a One Drive account? The instructions you linked to appear to remove my whole inysnc account, and I don;t want to do that, because google sync still works.

In my case it was not only the local files.
I did suddenly get an email from Onedrive that a lot of files was in the recycle bin.
I found that there was files deleted 4 hours ago and was important business files.

I’m not sure I can use Insync any more.
This happened on both my Onedrive accounts.
The Gdrive was untuched.

This makes a big problem for me because I use both Windows and Linux and need Insync for access on linux.
I removed Onedrive accounts from Linux pc and uninstallled Insync on one windows 10 laptop.

This article demonstrates how to remove a Google account, but the steps are the same for OneDrive accounts as well. You only need to remove and re-add the OneDrive account that encountered this issue.

this issue is already known for some months and still isn’t fixed.
I am meanwhile tired and frustrated with this sick behavior and switching to sth that actually works: rclone or https://github.com/abraunegg/onedrive!

Yes, the onedrive sync problem is ongoing (I am the person who first raised the problem of all local files being deleted when adding a file; removing and reinstalling onedrive accounts did not fix the problem for me).

But, I would not blame insync for this issue. Companies like Microsoft and Apple have been changing their underlying frameworks (there was an abundance of complaints in Apple forums about Apple redoing its cloud storage frameworks), which have made rsync and similar software much more difficult to implement). My guess here is that MS did something without notice and explanation for its cloud storage and has left insync holding the s__ bag. Insync has to essentially reverse engineer what MS did to onedrive to restore functionality.

For me, the solution has been to stop using onedrive for cloud storage and instead look to other options that still play nice with insync.

Tja, I was in my 7days trial period and it worked fine (using OneDrive on Linux Mint) until today. I will wait it until the problem has been solved.Sorry for that. Hope it will be solved soon.
