Specific Exclude from right click menu

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it was possible to have exclude function straight from the right click menu.
It would exclude a specific folder or file, unlike the selective sync that exclude any folder or file containing the appropriate name.

I often need to exclude a folder that could be name ie : “Output” from a project, but obviously, I can’t use the selective sync as I don’t want to have all my “Output” folders be excluded in all my projects.
Having this option straight in the right click context menu would make this extremely easy to mange.

I use this a lot with Syncplicity (that I’m really looking forward to replace with insync) :
Exclude :

Add back in if excluded :

Would this be possible?
Thanks
Stan

Hi @sbrusse this actually seems to be very practical. I’ll tag our engineers in this and see what they think
@marte @jimperio @lpugoy @dipesh

Thanks @jaduenas, it is indeed very useful, I use it nearly everyday.

Might be a good idea to have a poke around Syncplicity and SugarSync as those two are the best professional sync solution I found on the market, and I tried a lot of them, and obliged to use them as insync isn’t ready yet for demanding professional production pipeline.
Hopefully, one day will come where I will be able to set myself free from all those and rely only on Insync.

@sbrusse: Just to clarify, Selective Sync wouldn’t exclude all files that has the same name. That is the function of another feature called Ignore List. So, it’s safe to exclude “Output” using the Selective Sync feature and it will only exclude that specific folder.

Having it on the right-click menu is a neat suggestion. We’ll consider that. Thanks!

Ah right, yes, I’m just not using the selective sync at all as it deletes files locally.
Since the selective sync has been released, I’m asking to have a option to keep local files but that hasn’t made it yet, so until it’s possible to selective sync and keep local files, I wont be able to use that option.

Are you planing to give us that option?
( I saw the other day that now when using selective sync, the files are not even kept in insync trash, they are deleted directly, that’s even more scary and another reason why I wont use this feature as something like that can get me fired)

@sbrusse: You’re right, it’s a different use case. And yes we’re considering being able to do those use cases in our plan (among other features that let you have more control on the folder structure), but it won’t be here soon (at least not in 1.3.x).

Thanks again for the feedback!

I had not noticed the Ignore List feature, thanks @marte
I found that it enables to do exactly this (flag files/folders out of sync, while keeping them locally), although not through the context menu.

If the Ignore List supports full path specification, the requested feature could boil down to simple extra items in the context menu “Add to ignore list” and “Remove from ignore list”. Seems easy to implement. Can’t see any bad side effect of having these as they would just be shortcut to:

Open app dialog > Ignore List > add full path > apply changes

Please consider adding this feature earlier than “not soon”.

Thanks!

Hi @marte, is there any progress on this one?
I really need to be able to add to ignore list within a specific folder and not on the entire GDrive.

Thanks
