Sync a large folder from an external drive I've previously been updating manually?

Here’s my situation:

I have about 700GB of info on an external that I’ve been manually updating (drag and drop) into Google Drive. I would like insync to pick up where I’ve left off instead of having to reupload 700GB of data. I’d also like to insure that the local data doesn’t get overwritten.

Anyone have any suggestions for the best way of moving forward?

Hi @ledford, what does your folder structure look like on your external HD and on Drive, for the files involved? Asking because you might be able to take advantage of the file matching feature, although the folders will have to match

Within the example I’m talking about the folder is called Photos, and all the sub folders within are identical structure wise. I’ve just been manually drag and dropping new sub folders as they’re added. The Photos folder is too large for the boot drive, so it doesn’t reside in the original Google Drive folder.

I’m leery of setting up insync only to have it upload a duplicate folder (not the end of the world, but a time waster) or having it delete the local folder. Is there an option to point the source folder to the sync folder, have it compare, then resume from there?

Any suggestions? I’m 5 days into my trial and I’d like to see if this applies to my specific situation.

hi @ledford, consulted our engineer and tested this out. There’s a chance that file matching will not work for your case; a new “Photos” folder may be created in the root of your Drive and this may cause duplicate files. The file matching feature is best used during initial setup for now. I’ll bring this up with the team

Thanks, I’ll reconsider a license down the road if this is possible in a future release.
