Ubuntu Mate tray icon

When I run InSync, or let it run as a startup application, the icon that displays on the tray (Indicator Applet) is very large and does not fit on the panel properly at all. Now, if I do not run it via startup application or via the menu (insync start), and I instead run from a terminal as “sudo insync start --no-daemon”, the icon is the proper size and all runs good. Only problem is I am stuck with a terminal window open to run it. Now, I know there are methods to make the terminal window “go away”, but this is really not proper procedure. So I ask how I can avoid this and have the application start up the way it should, and with the correct icon size?

I am on Ubuntu Mate 16.10 64 bit, latest version of InSync from ppa.

Another user has reported this problem, but using Mint rather than MATE. Appears to be the same issue.
