My tray is becoming a bit too crowded. As Insync works fine all the time, I would like an option to hide the indicator and show notifications instead if some error is happening. Is this possible already in some way?
Hi @pol5xc! Could you share your desktop environment?
Hi, @mia! I’m using GNOME.
Will check with our Linux Team and get back to you asap
Thanks!
It might be worth adding that I’m using “AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support”, although I think it was already obvious from my previous posts.
Hi @pol5xc! Looks like hiding tray icons isn’t officially supported by GNOME itself so you’ll need to use a workaround, such as an extension.
- Go to GNOME Extensions.
- Search for
Tray Icons: Reloaded
and install if you haven’t. - Open GNOME Extensions App.
- In the preferences, check if it allows blacklisting or hiding specific applications. Some versions let you hide icons by matching the app name.
As long as you have this app setting enabled (see below), then you will still see errors via the pop-up notifs even if the tray icon is hidden.
Hi, @mia.
Apparently the appindicator extension takes precedence over “tray icons: reloaded”, and disabling the appindicator extension comes with much more problems than only running the the other extension solves.
For now I’ve settled with
insync start --qt-qpa-platform offscreen
I don’t like it, because I have to kill the process and reopen the app when I need it and I can’t see any error if they’re happening, but it’s a workaround I’ll try to use for now.
Please, consider adding an option to hide the indicator and show notifications on errors instead.
Hiding the indicator is possible, beeper and telegram allow to do so for their apps.
