Annoying coloured animation on top bar, crippled indicator

I just upgraded to 1.2.3 and now all the useful functionality that used to be in the indicator is gone. Thanks, progress indeed. The indicator was several times more useful, I od not care for your fancy gui, I care for functionality and this forces me to click more.

Moreover, the animation indicating activity is annoying. It is too noticeble and it is in colour, the only indicator in the top bar. There is a reason all is in gray there, you know? Look at how dropbox is doing it, it is much more useful.
