Functionality Breaking Bug on Ubuntu Insync

Today I encountered a problem that makes Insync useless to me.

Here’s what I did:

I deleted a folder called ST8II_sys_2024_12 from the drive that Insync synchs and copied in a folder called ST8II_sys-pre22. Both of these folders are 5.6 GB in size. The contents of the folders have files with the same names but totally different contents.

What is supposed to happen is that the folder ST8II_sys_2024_12 gets deleted from Google Drive and the folder ST8II_sys-pre22 gets uploaded to Google Drive. But did that happen? NO. Here’s what happened.

It simply renamed the folder and did not delete the old files or upload the new ones!

The following two images show that the contents of the files are different. The first is a file in the folder on my hard drive and the second is the file of the same name in Google Drive. The dates are months off.

This is awful, not how it used to work, and makes the app completely useless.

addition - I managed to get it to work by deleting the folder, copying it back in, and restarting Insync. Not the seamless experience I’m used to with the application.

Hi @Bill_Miller You are definitely right about the expected behavior! It was not supposed to rename it but rather be uploaded as a new folder while the ST8II_sys_2024_12 is deleted.

Could you send your logs.db and out.txt files to support@insynchq.com? I understand that you were able to resolve it by deleting + reuploading ST8II_sys-pre22, but I would like to send this for investigation to see what could have happened.

Thank you!

I just don’t think it’s worth my investing any more time in Insync.

It’s failing to do basic steps such as syncing folders.

And it’s hard to tell if it synced or not, because the feed does not work.

I’m gonna look into rclone and if I can get that to work, I’m uninstalling insync
