How to unsync a folder and still keep my local copy

I need to be able to keep local copy of my folders but remove the sync feature as I have parically synced folders and such.

Hi! We don’t have this feature yet. You’ll need to create a copy of your local folders to a directory outside of Insync’s Base Folder. Once you’ve unsynced your files, the local copy in your Base Folder will be deleted and you can refer to the copies that you made instead.

I hope this clarifies. We’ll take note of your feature request as well.

Is there any motion on this feature? It’s functionally impossible to break the sync between cloud and local without deleting locally which is shocking. I need to be able to break the sync relationship so I can turn it into a one-way sync (local to cloud).

Hi @emc2, apologies for the long wait. We have not included this feature yet.

What I can suggest for now is to move that folder out of the base folder (sync location). That would remove the copy from the cloud (therefore breaking the sync without losing your local copy), and then setting up the local-to-cloud 1-way Local Selective Sync.

Let me know if you need more details about that.

That doesn’t work. I move it out of the folder, then I turn off automatic 2 way sync for partially synced subfolders, put the folders I don’t want synced back where they go, and Insync syncs them anyway.

If I pause Insync, then move the folders I don’t want synced out, then unpause so it will remove them from cloud, instead it starts scanning the ENTIRE insync directory and I have to wait for that.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to set up the local-to-cloud 1 way sync. If I try to select the folder I don’t want 2-way-synced and set it to 1-way, even if it’s not present in Insync at all and I deleted it off of the cloud storage…

Y’know what it’s fine, I can just keep this folder outside of Insync entirely. That will be easier in the long run.

So sorry for the trouble! I’d be glad to raise this as a feature improvement to support use cases like yours.

It is indeed expected that putting folders back will trigger a local-to-cloud sync, unless you include them in your Ignore Rules. As for pausing-moving-unpausing-- it is expected that Insync will scan the drive for changes and eventually sync that. It should not take too long though-- do you recall how long it took for the scanning to complete?

As for setting up a local-to-cloud 1-way sync, users can refer to the feature below. I suggest starting with a test folder in case you’d like to try:

Thank you!
