Need easy way to resolve "don't have permission to remove" error

I have synced a shared folder that I don’t have delete permissions for. Any time I forget I can’t delete or move files and do so locally, Insync produces a bunch of errors:

There is no way to clear these errors other than to navigate to the folder in Google Drive, download each file, and put them back in the place Insync thinks they are supposed to go. This is a very poor user experience.

There should be a button on these errors that reverts the file state to the way it is online. So it would put the local file back where it is supposed to go. Having to do it manually is extremely unpleasant.

Thank you for your feedback, @Brandon_Istenes! In case this happens again, please let me know if you can unsync the files instead so you don’t have to manually sift through them online.

Hi @mia , thanks for the response. Could you please guide me to where in the UI I can unsync the file? I do not see any such option in either of the interfaces pictured below.

Hi @Brandon_Istenes Can you navigate to the My Drive tab and see if there’s an “Unsync” button beside that item? See below for reference.

Ok, I found it by navigating to “Shared With Me” and finding the folder there. Thank you for your help.

You are most welcome, @Brandon_Istenes

Ok, this problem has reared its ugly head again. This time, what happened is that I deleted a file locally that was actually supposed to be there. As soon as I deleted the file locally, Insync started freaking out as usual. But then I put the file back and Insync didn’t resolve the error. So I went to “unsync” the file, but then the file was unsynced and wouldn’t receive updates! So I renamed the file in Google Drive and removed the file locally. Then I uploaded the file anew to Google Drive (I’m sure this is all breaking other people’s links to these files… they probably now have links that lead them to delete-me.dta, and I have to send them the new links. Insanely frustrating.) Insync downloaded the new file, and it seems like it created a second copy of it??? Which I renamed to delete-me-2.dta. But now, finally, I have my data file synced again.

It would be great if there was any way to handle this situation that wasn’t insane and frustrating.

I have videos that show all this if you’re interested. Can’t post them on the forum because they show all my file names etc., but I would send them to Insync support.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for taking a screen recording of the incident! I can see how frustrating this was for you. Please send them over to support@insynchq.com, and make sure to include the link to this Forums post so I can easily trace the details.
