Symlinks to external volumes

I’m not sure if this is a feature request or a bug, but I’ll tell you what I am trying to do, and what is happening.

I have a symlink to folders on a couple of external drives in my InSync folder. As long as the drives are mounted, no problems. But if I unmount any of the drives, inSync resolves the symlinks as simply pointing to an empty folder, and deletes all of the files that have been synced to my Google Drive from the external drive.

What I had hoped inSync would do is see that the symlinks point to folders that are unavailable, and simply ignore them until the external drives were mounted again.

Is there a way to make this happen? Or should I just make sure only to turn on inSync when the relevant drives are attached? The latter solution is far from elegant, but will work in the mean time.

Thanks!

Hi @letteney I apologize for the late reply.

Does a specific error appear when the external drive isn’t mounted?

There is no error message - inSync just sees that the symlink points to an empty location, and deletes the corresponding files on Google Drive. It sees an empy symlink and treats it as if I had deleted the corresponding folder/files on my local drive.

@letteney This is a bug, as the expected behavior right now is for syncing to be paused for the unavailable folders, instead of them being deleted from Drive.

Could you confirm that you’re using the latest version of Insync?

If the issue persists, please do send in your logs and start a support conversation by emailing support@insynchq.com.

Thank you!

I am using the most recent release, along with OSX El Capitan. I’ll send my logs to the support address. Thanks!
