Syncing with Dolphin

I think I am misunderstanding how or what Insync really is. As I see it Insync keeps a folder in Dolphin synchronized as to the content of my Google Drive(s). Insync really doesn’t work from the client side by allowing me to synchronize the content of either all or specific folders and their content or sub folders content.

I have to first upload from my hard drive folders, sub folder and content that I want on Google Drive and then tell Insync where the new folder in Dolphin is that will synchronize with the contents of the Google Drive as just a place holder or indication of the content on the Google Drive.

Maybe another way to ask this is; after installing Insync can I tell Insync to just take my hard drive and allow me to choose which folder and content on my hard drive I want synchronized with my Google Drive. Such that when I save a file to a folder on the hard drive Insync sees the change and syncs the two either instantaneously or on a scheduled basis.

Please let me know if I am missing something here. What documentation you have provided really isn’t helpful.

Will be tagging our engineer @lpugoy and he will get back to you.

@Christopher_Glasoe: I think you are talking about the “Add to Insync” feature. This allows you to sync files and folders in your computer that are not under the Insync folder of your account. To use this you need to create a symlink in your Insync folder that points to the file/folder you want to sync. Hope this helps.

Can you give me an example of a symlink? I’m not that proficient with all of the commands. Thank you.

@Christopher_Glasoe: You can install insync-dolphin to add integration with Dolphin. It is available from www.insynchq.com/downloads. After installing it you will have to restart Insync and Dolphin.

After installing it there should be an entry “Add to Insync” in the context menu when you right click a file in Dolphin. That will create the symlink in your Insync folder.
