Will InSync, unlike Drive, do well on a fresh system?

This is the situation on Google Drive:

  1. You format your system and create a fresh Windows installation
  2. You install Drive and point to your good old Drive folder (which is located on another partition)
  3. Google Drive will make duplicates of every single file on the Drive

The only way to prevent this is by backing up Drive’s data and restoring after the format. Or just re-download the entire Drive.

Now how would InSync handle this situation? Will it properly avoid duplicates? If I point it to the Drive folder (without any prior Google Drive installation), will it just consider newly created files for sync?

Yes, as we have the file matching feature which will allow you to reuse your old Google Drive folder.

You can do this by pointing Insync to your Google Drive folder upon setup. Just remember to let it sync continuously so as not to interrupt file matching.

Nah, Insync does the same. I did a fresh installation of Windows (10) and pointed Insync to the folder. Voila! Multiple duplicates of some folders. Still waiting for customer support to get back to me. So frustrating…
