Insync deleted my entire local OneDrive directory without warning

I have absolutely no idea what happened, but insync very suddenly deleted the entire contents of my local OneDrive sync location to the trash. I needed to disconnect and reconnect OneDrive for insync to realize there were, in fact, things on the cloud end of OneDrive so it would re-download them.

Hi @thenaterhood!

My apologies for the huge issue. We are, in fact, investigating this behavior as other users have also reported a similar case. See here.

I have alerted our engineers about your report. Please send the following to support@insynchq.com:

  • logs.db and out.txt files, which can be found by following this guide
  • Name of some of the files that were sent to the trash folder

Thank you.

Ah I missed that other thread! I’ll get my logs and some more info sent over.

Funny enough with the usernames in the other thread, it happened while I was waiting for Insync to download some photos I’d just taken of the Northern Lights.

What a coincidence and a privilege to photograph the Northern Lights!

I’ve already received the email containing your logs, @thenaterhood. Thank you for sending them over! I have escalated this new case to our engineers and will update all affected users accordingly.

In the meantime, you may work around this issue by removing your OneDrive account, and adding it back. Make sure to use the same base folder (sync folder) you previously selected. Setup guides below for your convenience:

Thank you!

This is strange as something similar just happened to me.

I have 3 One Drive accounts, 1 Dropbox account and 1 Google Drive account connected to my installation on Windows 10 and one of the One Drive accounts suddenly reported showing no files. The directory emptied itself but the files remained in cloud storage. The fix was to remove that 1 account and add it again.

All the other connected accounts appear as they should be.

Hey @thedrumdoctor! This is indeed weird. Could you please send the following to support@insynchq.com?

  • logs.db
  • out.txt
  • data folder
  • live folder
  • Email affected by this issue
  • Example of file names that were cleared locally (2-3 file names will do)

Logs can be found by following this guide: https://help.insynchq.com/en/articles/1834816-locating-the-log-files

Thank you very much!

Hi Mia, the files are too big for email, I’d need to upload them to cloud for download.

Definitely, you can do that! You can upload it on your drive and then share a link I can access

Same problem.
Also deleting and adding account does not sync files anymore.

@alek Hi! Could you expound on the issue where adding the account does not sync files anymore?

Hi, same problem here, LMDE 6 all up to date, Insync; 3.9.4.60020-bookworm
Allo my OneDrive folder erased by Insync few minutes ago
Grrrr!"/$%?&*

Hi @Daniel_Vachon! We are still investigating what’s causing this major issue to occur. In the meantime, please follow the suggested workaround here: Insync deleted my entire local OneDrive directory without warning

Please also email your logs.db and out.txt files to support@insynchq.com with the link to this post. Logs can be found in ~/.config/Insync.

Thank you!

I was a little bit misleading, this was caused by another bug.

  1. Deleted and added OneDrive account
  2. During setup I’ve chosen my custom folder
  3. No files are uploading to my custom folder. Despite I chose it, it downloads to ~/Insync/myaccount@domain.com/OneDrive

So I had to move them again changing base folder.

Are things working as expected?
