Lost folder & content. What happened?

I dragged a specific folder from my google drive to my desktop. Rather than preserving a copy on my google drive and writing a second copy to my desktop it just moved the whole folder to my desktop. I immediately dragged the folder back to the google drive. Unfortunately now the folder has no content in it. What happened? How can I get it back!

For the future, how do I make a copy to my desktop rather than drag the original to my desktop?

Hi @Andy_Gridley copying and pasting will be much efficient in the future

Have you tried looking at your trash to see if your files are here?

How to retrieve lost or deleted files

Check Google Drive web (drive.google.com) trash to see if the deleted files are there. If not, go to the .insync-trash folder. It is a temporary hidden folder within your Insync folder. Files are temporarily kept in the .insync-trash folder for 30 days before being deleted.

Thanks. I didn’t realize I could “copy/paste” files/folders to make a copy.

I checked the google drive trash and found only an empty folder. The contents are missing from the folder. Some how in the accidental transfer to my HD and then re-upload it lost all the contents of the folder.

You mention a second/temporary hidden folder. Can you please show me the hierarchy to get to this hidden folder. I can not see it on my own.

Can you let me know your OS? It will be a hidden folder within your Insync folder.
