Sync'ing two computers using symlinks: how?

Suppose I have two computers to sync and I’d like to use symlinks in order to maintain the directory layout. So, on computer A, “Add to Insync” is used to add the files/folders into Insyc folder. After the sync’ing on computer A is completed, it’s time to sync to computer B.

Question: On computer B, how do I maintain the same directory layout as computer A? That is, only symlinks in the Insync folder and the actual files/folders reside in the same locations as in computer A?

@yltang On computer B, All files sync in computer A is synced to your Insync folder in computer B. If you wanted to sync the files in a separate location you may move the Insync folder to it’s new location or use symlink from the Insync folder to you desired location.

Let me know if this answers your question. If not, send us an email to support@insynchq.com with the link of this post.

Thank you.

Below seems to be a related issue. Don’t think it’s properly answered yet.

Hi guys, we recently made a “How-to” for this specific issue here: How to change the syncing location of a file/folder to outside of the Insync folder

I hope this helps! @ulrikr @yltang

Thanks. It feels a bilt like a workaround and I still believe creating the symlink first (Synchronizing an external hd in two different computers) should be a supported case, but I’ll give it a try.

I prefer the following solution:
