InSync moved all my files to recycle bin

I am using insync with OneDrive. Recently I opened insync after not doing so for a while, and was asked to authenticate myself again. When I did so, my insync proceeded to start moving my local previously synced folders to the recycle bin.

Now it seems to be attempting to re-download the folders from the cloud again. At the same time, it placed some cloud items in the cloud recycle bin too. My intention is that the folders I have in the cloud and the local folders are synced in two directions. i.e. if I make a file edit locally, the new local file version is uploaded to the cloud, and if I make an edit to a file in the cloud, it is downloaded to the local folder.

Thanks for your support.

This has been very frustrating, with insync appearing somewhat unresponsive when handling large amounts of files.

Hello! I have responded to your email with the instructions on how to send the logs for our team to check.

We acknowledge the severity of the issue as this is affecting multiple OneDrive users seemingly at random. It is currently under priority investigation, and here are the related threads which I’ve pinned for visibility:

For reference, I’ve also mentioned how to put things back in order here:

I’m not having this issue because I discontinued InSync for OneDrive because it doesn’t respect the FileSystemInfo facet.

However, the developer of another product (that does respect the facet) mentioned that a small percentage of OneDrive users started needing a new authentication token approach. If InSync misinterpret this situation (assuming logout or no files returned vs error) it could easily lead to symptoms described.

@claytondaley This is much, much appreciated. Let me send this to our engineers as they continue to investigate this OneDrive issue in more depth.

The same thing happened to me today… very frustrating and no idea how to fix it.

@sonicaidan37 My deepest apologies for the issue! Here is the post where I mention the steps on how to put things back in order:

This happened to me just today but it was way more catastrophic for me…

My files got wiped from my local and moved to my recycle bin, also from the Onedrive Cloud. I had to manually restore to a previous version using Restore Onedrive feature.

Something I noted when this was happening it created duplicated of almost all my folders with appended “(2)” or a “.1” or even a “.1” then download the files to these folders.

Data recovery is being hard because although I restored the cloud version, thousands of files are on the trash bin and I am not completely sure they were restored or not.

This is awful wtf.

Using Fedora 42 at the moment.

My deepest apologies, @Cesar_Robles. This is indeed awful and unacceptable.

Could you please let me know if you have sent your log files to support@insynchq.com? If not, please do so and include the following:

  • Name of some files that were deleted
  • Screenshot of the deletion activity on OneDrive cloud
  • Log files: logs.db, out.txt, data folder, and live folder – these can be found by following this guide.
  • Link to this forums post so I know it’s you

Thank you.
